Pay Or else

From Mr J. Rizzo

When you manage to acquire a piece of land, either by

buying it or through an inheritance, you will always have to fork out money, one way or other.

Some people do not own land but they are so arrogant, not embarrassed to make money out of land they do not own or do not lease.

I am talking about these self-proclaimed non-licensed car parkers who most of the times take over government land (owned by all Maltese citizens) and make it their own, earning quite a bit of money from car owners, who sometimes are afraid not to pay an unlicensed parker (who knows why?). Sometimes you give them 50 cents for five minutes parking and they do not give you change, the excuse being that they do not have it.

Those who do not have a licence do not pay tax on what they earn from such work because they have nothing to show for it, not even a “thank you”.

As regards those who have a licence, who knows what taxes they pay because they do not give fiscal receipts like most businesses do. We are not talking peanuts here, we are talking of thousands of Maltese liri per year.

Why are law binding citizens the ones who always have to endure and carry the burdens of the country?

Why do we have to make sacrifices even with our loved ones, bear the suffering and consequences?

Where are the authorities, where is the social justice

in this European and Christian land?

John Rizzo
