In a recent international review written by top wine and food journalist Mario Schaeurmann, for well established German magazine Alles uber wein, one of Malta’s foremost wine producers was praised on the quality of its wines to the extent of rating them with other top class world wines.

Marsovin’s premium red wine Grand Maitre received the highest rating from the respected magazine, which claimed that with this wine “the Maltese wine industry have a true flagship”.

The prized vintage, derived from grapes grown in the private estate selection of Ghajn Rihana, situated in the hills of Bidnija, is dedicated each year to one of the noble Grand Masters of Malta by appointment to the Maltese Association Sovereign Military Order of Malta. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes, Grand Maitre has proved to be a true collectors item, with the 1998 vintage fetching prices well over the Lm250 level.

Three other Private Estate Selection wines – Antonin Blanc, Antonin Noir and Cheval Franc – as well as the popular Atlantis, also received very good ratings in the same magazine. Speaking to the press, chairman Tony J. Cassar, grandson of the founder Chev. Anthony Cassar said: “Since its establishment in 1919, Marsovin has constantly worked at improving the standard of Maltese wines. Grand Maitre is, in fact, a testimony to the very high standards that Marsovin has achieved and our privately-owned estates are a reflection of our commitment to excellence and the future”.
