Birkirkara Teams head the table

With the end of the Individual Singles and Doubles leagues, the attention of all local badminton enthusiasts is now fully focussed on the H2Qnly Mixed League.

This season, nine squads are contesting the event, which is spread over two divisions and which will be played over two rounds. Each fixture consists of two Singles and two Doubles games; six fixtures have already been played in each division.

In the First Division, B’Kara 1565 currently share the top of the provisional table with Pawla Wolves Schtag. Both tearns are undefeated and have earlier drawn their direct encounter.

In their latest outing, B’Kara 1565 defeated B’Kara Lowenbrau 3-1. Brothers Robert and Stefan Salomone as well as Fiorella Farrugia were the players behind this important result, which allowed B’Kara 1565 to keep pace with the Paolites. Jo’Anne Cassar scored Lowenbrau’s consolation point.

On their part, Pawla Wolves Schtag overcame B’Kara John Bull with an identical 3-1 score. Kenneth Vella, Anthony Xuereb as well as Catherine Dimech were the players behind this Paolite victory. Jacqueline De Giovanni scored B’ Kara’s consolation point.

The first division table presently reads as follows: B’Kara 1565 and Pawla Wolves Schtag 10 points; B’Kara Lowenbrau and B’Kara John Bull 4 points.

In the Second Division, B’Kara Red Lion enjoy a healthy four-point lead over Pawla Wolves Schtag, though the latter still have a game in hand. In their latest outing, the Lions overcame B’Kara Jazz 3-1. Martin Farrugia, Daniel Abdilla and Rachel Attard brought home the points for the Lions, thereby preserving their unbeaten record; Patrick Cassar scored the consolation point for B’Kara Jazz.

In the other Second Division match of the day, Shuttles BC secured their first win of the season with an unequivocal 4-0 victory over B’Kara Power Fruit. Chris Spiteri, Maria Borg and Joanne Vella were the players behind this positive result for the Shuttles.

The current Second Division table is as follows: B’Kara Red Lion 12 points; Pawla Wolves Schtag 8; Shuttles BC 5; B’Kara Power Fruit 3; B’Kara Jazz 2.

The activities of the Badminton Association continue today with more fixtures from the Second Division of this competition.

In the first match, Pawla Wolves Schtag will challenge B’Kara Red Lion’s supremacy at the top of the table. In the other match of the day, B’Kara Jazz will face Shuttles BC.
