Hibs Meet today after MBA Protests Board turns down appeal

Malta Independent Sunday, 24 April 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

In a statement issued yesterday, Ronnie Calleja, Hibs GoMobile director, said that Hibs will hold an extraordinary committee meeting and a Players' Meeting today at 10am at their club in Kordin to decide whether they will honour their last fixture/s.

This decision comes about after a Hibs' Appeal against the decision of the Protests' Board regarding Depiro players Josephine Grima and Joselle Cardona was not upheld yesterday though, according to Calleja, it was admitted that a breach of a FIBA rule took place.

In the statement Calleja said that this rule states that a player may not be licensed by more than one national federation at the same time. Grima and Cardona played concurrently in leagues organised by the Malta Basketball Association as well as the Federazione Italiana Pallacanestro. It was learnt yesterday that MBA had sent a letter to Depiro authourising them to make use of the said players for local competitions.
