Westin Dragonara Resort Introduces mentoring programme

Malta Independent Monday, 25 April 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

In its continuous work towards the satisfaction of not just its clients but also its employees, The Westin Dragonara Resort has recently introduced a mentoring programme.

Six Westin’s associates – human resources manager Aris Cefai, training manager Sandra Scerri, Angela Saliba, chief engineer Jimmy Zammit, housekeeping manager Ana Cristina Nogueira and assistant financial controller Doreen Sammut – successfully completed an intensive four-day programme.

The aim of the programme was to provide ongoing work-related and personal support to heads of department, supervisors and managers who had to assign themselves a mentor of their choice. Confidentiality was strictly observed.

During the working day, one was bound to encounter a situation one might find difficult.

Mentors provide the support needed to cope and even solve daily problems.

During the mentoring training, the participants received a thorough understanding of the concept of mentoring and gained awareness of the broad spectrum of skills and attitudes involved in effective mentoring.

Another aim of the programme was to facilitate the participants’ acquisition of the foundation skills necessary for successful mentoring.

This programme makes the Westin one of the first hotels on the island to have a fully fledged mentoring programme.
