Malta Independent Thursday, 28 April 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Star Track 2005 is the name of a two hour programme of an enjoyable set of games and sporting events especially prepared for young children aged between 7 and 11 years. Parents are being invited to bring their children down to the Marsa track, next Sunday at 9am to give them the opportunity of enjoying themselves while experiencing sport in a safe and clean environment with other children of their own age.

Some 300 children took part in a similar event when it was held for the first time two years ago. A commemorative medal will be distributed to all the children participating in this programme.

The Malta Amateur Association who are organising this event in collaboration with the Maltese Council for Sport, have also prepared a programme of keep-fit exercises for those parents who, while waiting for their children, are prepared to do some keep-fit exercises and aerobics to the sound of disco music.

At the end of the programme the MAAA will be organising a few athletics events to give some of its athletes a final chance of obtaining the necessary qualifying standards necessary for them to represent Malta in the GSSE games which are being held in Andorra in the first week of June.

The athletes will be participating in various running as well as throwing events, including the 4 x 100m relays. Mike McFarlane, a British Olympic finalist, (Los Angelis -1984) and UK national team coach, who will be overseeing the athletes’ performance, is being flown to Malta for the occasion.

The programme is expected to be concluded by 11.30am.
