From Ms J. Debrincat
I would like to draw your readers’ attention to an important religious publication, namely the book Philothea – An Introduction to Christian Life (Part I and II). Translated into Maltese with adaptations by Angelo Xuereb and Fr Anthony Sultana, this publication was issued by Lumen Christi, Gozo, in March 2004.
St Francis de Sales, bishop and doctor of the church addresses Philothea (the reader) the person who loves, or wishes to love God with, the same love and terms of endearment a father bestows upon his
children. In view of the fact that many find it difficult, if not impossible, to live a spiritual life, the author demonstrates in a gradual manner how one can rise to higher levels like a dove if not like an eagle. The book is written in a simple but fluent style and is enriched by figures of speech and imagery.
This book is indispensable for our times: by reading it one falls in love with God and with whatever brings us nearer to Him. May this publication become popular as was the case of similar past editions so that the Christian way of life in these islands be revived.
Thanks to Lumen Christi, which who was responsible for this publication duly adapted for our times, I also take this opportunity to congratulate it for its unstinting efforts to promote religious books on the Maltese Islands.
