With reference to the article entitled “Maltese judge abstained from hearing Meinrad Calleja case”, published on the front page of The Malta Independent on Sunday of 8 May, your attention is drawn to the fact that this is not the first time that a similar abstention has been registered by the Maltese judge sitting on the European Court of Human Rights at Strasbourg. At present there are two other cases still pending before this Court, one of which is the Zarb Adami case concerning jury service, recently reported in the local papers. In both cases the ‘ad hoc’ judge nominated to replace the Maltese judge is Mr Justice Joseph Filletti.
