Valletta Subbuteo Club member Joseph Mifsud, who plays for ACS Perugia, and is ranked in the 23rd position, came close to winning the Grand Prix Tournament in Belfast, Northern Ireland last Saturday when he was beaten 2-0 in the final by the Belgian David Ruelle who is ranked seventh in the world.

This result came after just three weeks, since the excellent feat of Charles Aquilina in the Grand Prix Tournament of Scotland.

On the road to the final after winning his group, Mifsud won against Irish player Gary Moore 5-0 in the last 32 qualifying round. Moving to the last 16, Mifsud won against his team-mate at Valletta Subbuteo Club, Hansel Mallia, who presently plays for AS Hennuyer, by one goal to nil.

In the quarter-final Mifsud continued to progress by beating the No. 1 ranked Eric Verhagen who also plays for the same club as Mifsud, that is ACS Perugia. The score here was 2-1.

In the semi-final Mifsud achieved a 1-0 win against the Briton Darren Clark who incidentally had beaten Charles Aquilina in the final of three weeks ago in Scotland.
