A Great shock

Malta Independent Monday, 23 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

It was a great shock for us at Nature Trust (Malta) when the news broke out that our dear friend Julian Manduca had passed away. He was not only a fellow environmentalist but also a person who lived what he preached.

We have been side by side together in our continuous struggle to save the remaining natural environment on our islands. Some issues were hard but he was one of the few persons who never gave up a struggle, encouraging all others around us to do the same.

I have known Julian for over 15 years. He was quiet person but full of ambition to save our natural heritage from the paws of unsustainable development. Through his work as Friends of the Earth he was instrumental to also get international support for our causes.

We are at loss to lose such an environmental knight and we shall all feel his absence in our struggle to achieve better environmental standards for our homeland. I am sure that now he can roam in a better place where environmental issues are high on the agenda of our creator.

Thanks Julian for your never-ending support. We will continue to work for what you too dreamed of, that of leaving a better place for future generations. We are gaining nothing in our struggle but winning for others.

We will miss you. May you find eternal rest and enjoyment.
