Hockey: Second Consecutive double for Rabat

Malta Independent Friday, 27 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Champions Rabat ended another successful season when in the final of the KO they beat closest rivals The Hunters Tower Restaurant 2-0.

Thanks to this victory Rabat retained the trophy they won last year and registered their second consecutive double. All in all it was a deserved victory and a fitting conclusion to another successful season for Rabat.

The two week layoff seemed to have effected Young Stars who were rarely incisive and always seemed uncomfortable when under attack.

On their part Rabat, who were coming from their participation in the European Hockey Challenge II, seemed sharper and more up to the game.

Leading scorer Josef Antonelli opened the scoring on 20 minutes when he concluded a fine action by Jason Vella. Seven minutes later Chris Bugeja fired in a short corner to send Rabat into the half time break with a comfortable two goal cushion.

Young Stars tried to get back but despite their efforts and possesion they never really tested Azzopardi in the Rabat goal and if anyone was going to score it was likely to be Rabat, who were thwarted by their own carelessness and Young Stars goalkeeper Mizzi.
