Malta Independent Saturday, 28 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Maltese shooter William Chetcuti finished in 13th place in the Lonato Double Trap world championship on Thursday.

He had rounds of 44, 47 and 44 to finish on 135, eight behind the winner, Ahmed Almaktoum of the United Arab Emirates, who won the gold medal at last year’s Athens Olympic Games.

With this score, Chetcuti would have won the gold medal had he opted to take part in the juniors event.

Chetcuti, together with his coach Jimmy Bugeja, were expected to travel to Andorra yesterday. Next week, he will be defending the gold medal he had won in Malta two years ago in the Double Trap discipline.

Meanwhile, a group of three Maltese shooters is in Pescala, Italy to take part in an international trap shooting competition over the weekend. They are Nicky Carabott, Zaren Attard and Eugenio Borg.
