Athletics President Anthony Chircop also told me that he was expecting his athletes to be mostly successful as they have been in the past few editions, especially in Malta two years ago.

Chircop said the athletes are well geared for the occasion. “Although we have had some problems, these have now been overcome, and we are now looking forward towards a memorable week,” he said.

Chircop said the athletes were well prepared for the occasion. “Despite the time lost in the early stages of the year because of the uncertainty regarding the participation of Malta in these Games, all obstacles have been overcome. We simply hope that they will now prove their worth on the track,” he added.

Chircop also revealed that Carol Galea’s participation in the 5000 metres as slightly in doubt due to the fact that the Maltese athlete was suffering from a muscle strain, but in all probability will run the race today.
