Not In God’s name

From Mr E. Spagnol

Since time immemorial, nations have warred against each other, killing, plundering and enslaving peoples under all sorts of pretexts. However, strange as it may sound, such atrocities were often called “Holy Wars”, where it was not unusual for both sides to claim that they were fighting a holy war in their God’s name.

It is a fact that religions were and are still used as a very powerful mind-manipulating tool to establish a kind of cultural identity, and as a mustering station. The truth is that, despite the fact that all religions (or nearly all) acknowledge a god or gods, religions instead of uniting people are acting as a barrier, and very often people look askance at others whose religion is different to theirs.

It is not my intention to discuss or argue about the tenets of this or that faith, but I strongly believe that there would be no so-called religious conflicts if all religions would do away with all the mummeries, different garb, and other mumbo jumbo and just concentrate on the real essentials, that is, acknowledging god, not kill or harm others, not steal or exploit others, help those less fortunate. These are the principal laws of every democratic civilized country.

Emm. Spagnol
