I wanted to give my grandchildren a treat by taking them to the Mnarja festivities at Buskett but in the end I wished that I had not come up with this idea.

This is because the festivities were, in my view, marred by the bad treatment some of the animals were receiving.

Many were cooped up in small cages, hardly able to move. Other bigger animals were pushed and shoved onto trucks.

It was not enough to give them food and drink and keep them in the shade. Animals deserve better treatment.

We should not allow such things to happen.

The problem is that this is apparently what goes on every year. Why do the authorities allow such behaviour?
