Marsa CC have held on to top spot in the Skanska summer league after a convincing win over Melita CC.

Melita, missing Ricky Parker, won the toss and elected to bat. Rory O’Brien top scored with 22 runs and Roger Walker was 14 runs not out. Only two other batsmen, Dameon Willis, 11 runs, and Sudeep, 14 runs, made it to double figures.

Mike Caruana took five wickets for ten runs from his four overs which destroyed Melita CC including the prize wicket of Frank Spiteri who was bowled around his legs.

Melita were bowled out for 96 runs.

Marsa lost three wickets before making the required runs. For Marsa Nowell Khosla made 21 runs, Sarfraz Ali 17 runs, Mike Caruana 15 runs not out and John Grima 17 runs not out. Marsa made the runs in 15 overs.

In the second game Krishna CC took on Overseas CC and secured second place with a 51-run win.

Krishna won the toss and elected to bat. Javed Shah was almost out on the first ball of the game having hit Mike Smith high towards the square leg boundary which just cleared the fielder and went for four runs. Mike Smith was to have Shah’s wicket in his next over and also claimed the wicket of Sam Dhandapani.

Krishna was in trouble. But poor bowling by the Oversea,s including 34 wides, let Krishna off the hook. Good batting from Alan Kyle, 19 runs, Robert Krishna, 21 runs, Mark Sacco, 27 runs and Jim Towers 23 runs, took Krishna to a total of 162 runs.

The Overseas only managed 111 runs with Kieth Abernathy top scoring with a 30 run. Mike Smith, Phil Gibbs and Matt Lewis made it to double figures but the Krishna bowlers were bowling to their potential. Young Sagar Krishna led the attack with four wickets from his four overs.

Marsa will now be taking on Stockport Grammar School from England in a four game series. The first game today is at 11am, tomorrow at 11am, Saturday at 11am and Sunday at 9am.
