Paradise Summer chess tournament

Malta Independent Wednesday, 6 July 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

With barely a week to go to the first round, the organisers of the 2005 Summer tournament are making a final reminder to all players.

The nine round event will start next Saturday at 3pm at Paradise Bay Hotel.

It is in the usual tradition Open to all players.

In fact several Malta champions have participated in this popular event. But the organisers aim also at all other classes of players without distinction as to sex, age, rating or nationality.

This summer event has made a name for introducing new and unknown persons to organised chess.

It is also a golden opportunity to play in the same hall near the leading Maltese players – usually they play among themselves because they are qualified by high rating or performances.

There is a special attraction to schools and colleges – these often do not find the staff or time or resources to run a chess programme during the hectic school year – here sports masters can present “teams” from their establishments where they will meet other persons attending other educational establishments – during the “empty” summer weekends.

Applications can be made to the arbiter, A. Muscat Baron on phone 21313798 Fax 2540 1163 email:[email protected] or Mob: 7999 4387 or the organiser, Joe Grech on Mob: 9947 3623.
