Qawra Wrestling Club managed to win no fewer than five weight categories in another tournament from the British Airways Series this time held at the hall under the Qawra Parish Church.

Present for the occasion was Stefan Kazarian who was sent to Malta by the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) for talks with the Malta Amateur Wrestling Federation.

Although winning five weight categories Qawra did not succeed in placing first in the general team points classification. Top position went to Stella Maris College totalling 26 points to Qawra’s 23 while Furtu Selvatico Trade School of Naxxar collected 16 points.

Again those present had an occasion to watch a good number of well contested bouts in the best sporting spirit. David Galea, David Sant and Nicolai Portelli, all of Qawra, caught the eye as did Michael Borg of Stella Maris.

Best bout of the tournament was that between Galea and Borg in the Cadets II 53 category won by the former.

At the end of the tournament Mr Kazarian was invited by the President of the Malta Amateur Wrestling Federation, Simon Bonello, to present the medals.
