I attended the police parade in Valletta, held last Tuesday to mark the 191st anniversary of the setting up of the Police Corps.

I could not but praise the efficiency, smartness and professionalism shown by all the members of the police force who took part in the event. Of course, those who did not take part would have also made their corps proud.

Many times we take policemen for granted, often forgetting that they have a tough job to do. They work long hours and have to deal with unpleasant situations too, often risking being injured or worse.

Without an efficient police force, our country would not be the same. We should be proud of our policemen and policewomen.
