Daphne And her ‘opinions’

Malta Independent Sunday, 17 July 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

From Mr R. Cassar

Daphne Caruana Galizia seems to think she can insult people whenever she feels like it but cannot take the heat when she herself is strongly criticised (TMIS, 10 July). She sees herself as above all us hamalli and common mortals.

Of course, it goes without saying that she writes very good English, but are the Maltese words she peppers her articles with an attempt to convince us she can write Maltese? Last Sunday Daphne Caruana Galizia, who, to use her own words, specialises in insults, “vomit”, and labelling people as “hamalli” and ignorant in most of her articles, takes Dr H. Vassallo to task for a strongly worded article in reply to another article full of insults penned by her.

Ms Caruana Galizia is well known for bending over backwards to justify the antics of her darling blue-eyed boys (not hamalli of course), especially close to elections. She regularly resorts to the language of class hatred reminiscent of the early 20th century.

She also seems to be offended by suggestions of her being commissioned to write about the rent issue. Well, we all remember “opinions” about, for example, the Verdala golf course.

I wonder what Daphne's next crusade will be and who will foot the bill for her “opinions”!

Ralph Cassar
