Religion Is the harbinger of terrorism

From Mr J. Borg

Daphne Caruana Galizia is one of those maverick journalists whose pen thinks faster than her brain. Her article postulates the ridiculous proposition that religion has nothing to do with terror and that it merely provides a sense of identity and belonging to its adherents (TMIS, 31 July). A glance at history will soon show that her theory invalidates her opinions and makes her another one of those apologists for Islam. Let her consider these facts.

After 9/11, a Muslim spokesman was asked what he thought of that abominable act of wholesale murder. He did not condemn anybody but preferred to await the “outcome of the evidence” from the resultant inquiry. When that murderous monster Bin Laden was videoed expressing his delight (Allah be praised!) at the destruction of the Twin Towers and the deaths of those innocent victims, not one Muslim leader or spokesman condemned that monster.

After terrorists attacked London on the seventh of last month, we had a show of condemnation with Muslim leaders publicly stating that murder was not part of Islam. All of a sudden, the death of 55 Londoners becomes more important than the more than 2500 who died in New York. It would be the most cynically pragmatic view propounded by the Muslims if it were designed to prevent the expected backlash from enraged and shocked citizens of that usually civilised city.

This letter would be quite long were I to rebut her argument. I will content myself with saying that the Koran has all the seeds of violence rooted in all those Muslims who want to destroy the West as it is regarded as anti Islam.

In 1300 years of modern civilisation, the Koran instead of discarding the violent Suras or chapters of the Koran, has added fuel to the fire of the violent but misguided members of Islam by extending its hatred of the West by Haddiths that contradict the protestations of those Muslims who say that murder does not form part of Islam.

The Catholic religion has rejected the fiery terms of the Old Testament and has created a religion based on love and forgiveness.

The hatred of the West and the incitement to violence that is provoked in some mosques will fortunately in future become a criminal offence, as will the suicide bombers who willingly give their lives do so for a cause, however misguided they might be.

It simply defies logic for Ms Caruana Galizia to maintain they are seeking an identity and a sense of belonging. Death is not so subtle as to make that distinction.
