Chess: Horace Cassar Maintains the leading position in Paradise Bay event

Malta Independent Wednesday, 10 August 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

In the fifth round (of nine) of the Paradise Bay tournament, Horace Cassar obtained and fully exploited an advantageous position against Harry Camilleri; who has just re-qualified for this year’s Malta championship Finals.

Now Cassar is the only player with five points from five games. He has definitely sidelined the strongest opposition in this event and he is one full point ahead of his nearest followers.

There are now nine different point groupings. At the second level (four points) there are Colin Pace, Ivan Attard, Clarence Psaila, and a visitor from Australia, Luke Farrugia. The Swiss manager will choose Cassar’s next opponent from this group (excepting Colin Pace) depending on the colour sequence.
