Furtu Selvatico Trade School of Naxxar managed to win the very recently held youth tournament from the British Airways Series.
Their athletes totalled 37 points while Stella Maris College, although winning more weight categories (four) had to content with second place scoring 34 points.
On the other hand ,Qawra Wrestling Club came third with only 10 points. However, it is fair to say that the team from this village had a number of wrestlers missing. Never the less 22 youths participated.
As in other British Airways youth tournaments those present had occasion to watch quite a number of well-contested bouts held in the best sporting spirit.
The most interested bout was that between Dulsimo Zahra (Stella Maris College) and Ryan Buhagiar (Furtu Selvatico – Naxxar T.S.) won by the former who also managed to win five bouts in the Cadet II 66kg.
Luke Debono (Furtu Selvatico – Naxxar T.S.) continued to show progress. He overcame the more experienced Nicolai Portelli (Qawra W.C.) in the decisive bout of the Cadet I 74kg.
As expected, David Sant (Qawra W.C.) had no difficulty in winning the Cadet II 73kg. Sant is a very promising young wrestler who is expected to make very good progress in this sport.
The programme included a very interesting non competitive bout between two seven year old boys, Gary Giordemaina and Glen Saliba.

Referees Lawrence Attard and Abraham Vassallo controlled the bouts while Jesmond Giordemaina and Pierre Cassar were Timekeeper and Pairing Master respectively.
At the end of this very entertaining tournament, Malta Amateur Wrestling Federation President Simon A. Bonello presented the medals.
