Manikata Residents want answers

Malta Independent Sunday, 14 August 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

From Dr E. E. Vella MD

All Malta knows about the proposed golf course on the outskirts of Manikata but, I suspect, not many “outsiders” appreciate fully the major upheaval of the extensive developments which may affect this tiny village (population; approximately 400).

Statements have been made by the Civil Administration not only about the new golf course but also a National Park at its cliff’s end; plus major and extensive reconstruction of the roads leading to and out of the village; and even a tunnel under it! (French consultants).

It must be fully realised that this is a farming community and rumour has it that “ sacred” arable land might have to be made available for the proposed developments in this area

Naturally the village is buzzing like a wasp’s nest in mid-summer.

It would help smooth and calm the present stormy situation and allay considerably the dread and uncertainty of the future if the appropriate government departments take a little PR trouble and publish a simple line-site map in the popular public media of what has been so far proposed.

This will prove more meaningful to the villagers than so many spoken words.

Better the devil you know…
