Malta’s Under-21 national team travelled to Wales yesterday morning for their forthcoming friendly match at Stebonheath Park, Llanelli tomorow.

Coach Mark Miller, assisted by Silvio Vella, had to make some changes to the initial squad of 21 players announced earlier last week.

In fact goalkeeper David Farrugia of Floriana, as well as the two Hibernians players Jonathan Caruana and Matthew Bartolo were dropped from the squad while Mosta’s Dyson Falzon had to be replaced by Qormi’s Andrew Scerri because of fitness problems.

The players making the trip to Wales are:

Goalkeepers: Kristian Calleja (Mqabba), Bernard Paris (Birkirkara);

Defenders: Josef Mifsud (Msida), Ryan Mintoff (Hibernians), Alex Muscat (Sliema), Gareth Sciberras (Marsaxlokk);

Midfielders: Andrei Agius (Messina, Italy), Roderick Bajada (Msida), Shaun Bajada (Marsaxlokk), Christian Cassar (Floriana), Clayton Failla (Hibernians), Paul Fenech (Msida), Cleaven Frendo (Marsaxlokk), Andrew Scerri (Qormi), Andre Schembri (Marsaxlokk) and

Strikers: Nicolo Baldacchino (Floriana), Trevor Cilia (Floriana) and Ian Zammit (Valletta).

Miller will be using this visit to Wales as preparation for the Maltese youngsters’ three remaining competitive matches in the European Championships against Hungary, Croatia and Bulgaria.

The Under/21 sqaud is expected back in Malta next Thursday morning.
