The Ryanair Saga

Malta Independent Sunday, 21 August 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

When I read the letters about Ryanair I start thinking that I am living in a different country, especially when they say that Ryanair could bring another one million tourists to Malta.

We are aware that several tour operators had a massive problem finding accommodation in August, with the consequence that a substantial number of their seats remained unsold. So did we up to a point; we were luckier considering that we own and operate hotels.

I fail to understand where the one million tourists who shall travel with Ryanair will stay. Unless these people expect Ryanair to operate 11 months of the year and pull out in August, when the most profit is made.

When we launched Britishjet.com in January, I told the media that we would face a problem finding accommodation during August because so many hotels had closed down. And that’s precisely what happened. In fact, we had to cancel some flights.
