Traffic Accident claims young girl’s life: Court experts want to speak to eyewitnesses

Malta Independent Tuesday, 23 August 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

One girl died and another was still in a critical condition last night after they were hit by a car while they were crossing the Mriehel Bypass on Sunday evening.

The 17-year-old, A.H., died at the scene and the other, G.F., aged 13, who was to spend the night at her friend’s house, was rushed to St Luke’s Hospital in a critical condition and was still in intensive care last night.

The incident took place at around 9.20pm on Sunday evening. As the two teenagers were crossing the road, they were in collision with a Ford Focus which was being driven by a 23-year-old in the direction of Marsa.

Court experts who were appointed by duty magistrate Joe Cassar are trying to locate a group of friends who had been with the girls moments before the fatal accident took place, sources told this newspaper yesterday. It is understood that the girls were in the company of others before they crossed the road in order to go to the home of the 17-year-old, where they were to spend the night.

The experts are under the impression that the group of friends could have seen what happened on Sunday night and are hoping that they will be able to help in their investigations.

The sources said that the court experts are studying brake marks at the scene of the accident which could help them in drawing up a report.

Qormi district police are also conducting investigations. Court experts include architect Richard Aquilina and traffic expert Simon Micallef Stafrace.
