Malta Independent Thursday, 8 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The winners of the 2005 Waterpolo European Champions League, the Neopolitan side Atlantis Posillipo, were in Malta for a few hours yesterday afternoon. The team arrived on board the cruise liner MSC Melody and were immediately whisked to St. Paul’s Bay where they had a training session with the local waterpolo team Sirens.

Leading the Champions League winners was their new coach Paolo de Crescenzo, a former Sirens coach and who has just been appointed instead of their ex Pino Porzio.

The cruise on board the Melody is a prize offered to them by MSC Cruises after winning the Champions League final. MSC Cruises are the sponsors of Atlantis Posillipo.

Interviewed on board the MSC Melody De Crescenzo was full of praise for Malta and hoped that in the near future his team could spend some time here using Malta as a training camp for his team while taking part in exhibition matches with local waterpolo teams. He thanked Sirens for their kind invitation to participate in a training session during the few hours they spent in Malta.

The team boasts a number of world class players among whom are Bencivenga, Violetti, team captain Silipo, Afroudakis, Zlokovic, Stritof, Di Costanzo, Buonocore, Scotti Galletta, Felugo, Agrillo and Gallo.
