Mqabba 2

St Andrew’s 0

Mqabba registered their second win of the season beating bottom placed St. Andrew’s, to go fourth in the table. The match was very interesting with Mqabba holding the upper hand in the second half after a balanced first half.

In the first half, both teams had good opportunities of forging ahead, with Nenad Veselji missing a glaring chance in front of goal on 20 minutes. Two minutes later Mqabba were rather unlucky when a Martin Borg shot beat Debono, but Stephen Falzon blocked off the goal line.

In the second half Mqabba were by far the better team, missing a sitter through Busuttil in the first minutes and going near with a close range effort from Muscat.

On 63 minutes Mqabba scored the winner when Muscat, put through by Busuttil, shot home from inside the area. St. Andrew’s never gave the impression of saving the match and Mqabba put the issue beyond doubt when Roderick Spiteri headed from close range following a corner taken by Martin Borg

St. Patrick 1

Senglea A 1

Senglea and St. Patrick settled for a draw in a rather low profile match, with both goals scored in the second half. The result leaves both sides in the lower part of the table, with St. Patrick still in search of their first win.

To be frank the Saints looked set to obtain their first victory, but a disputed goal six minutes from time, gave Senglea a surprise equaliser.

The match was very boring in the first half, but came to life in the second half especially after the Saints forged ahead, thanks to penalty scored by Mark Tanti. The penalty was awarded following a tackle by Babolayefa on Caruana at the edge of the area.

St Patrick started to play better after taking the lead but failed to capitalise on a couple of good occasions. With six minutes to go, Senglea avoided another defeat, when Kenneth Abela, in a dubious offside position, slotted home from close range.

In injury time Thomas Caruana skimmed the crossbar for St Patrick, with Senglea going near with a close range shot by Bonello blocked on the goal line by Fenech.
