Netball: Hard Earned win for Fuego

Malta Independent Saturday, 5 November 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Fuego 32

M'Scala 20

This first match of the season from the first division was between last year’s runners-up Fuego and the newly promoted M’Scala.

It was Fuego who forged ahead opening a four-shot lead by the end of the first quarter, and then increasing it to seven mid-way through the match.

At the start of the third quarter, Marsascala made a good reaction, managing to turn their opponents’ mistakes into shots thus reducing the gap to only four shots.

Fuego recouped their composure in the last fraction producing better play and 11 shots to only three by Marsascala.

Kerygma Strikers 35

This encounter from the second division saw the debut of the United team against a more experienced Kerygma Strikers.

The match had a balanced start with the first quarter ending in a draw of 5-5: however, from the second quarter onwards it was Kerygma who showed better play, continually increasing their lead.

United’s attempts at reducing the margin in score in order to take home at least one point from this match proved futile as Kerygma cruised towards a comfortable victory.

New Ages Followers 20

Mellieha Minis 28

New Ages Followers’ first appearance in the U/21 League was a good show giving their opponents a hard time.

Mellieha took some time to settle down and led the first two quarters of the match by only one shot.

New Ages’ efforts and team changes were repelled by an improved Mellieha who established a good advantage leading them to a more secure victory.
