Basketball: MBA Announces Player of Year awards

Malta Independent Thursday, 24 November 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Omar Said and Dorianne were named as the Players of the Year by the Malta Basketball Association for season 2004-2005.

These were announced at such a late stage of the year because near the end of summer computer and other accessories were stolen from the MBA secretariat at Ta’ Qali. Thus all data had to be collected and counted again.

Omar Said plays for Hamrun: During his first season with the club, Said was one of the main assets for the team to win the league for the second time in their history. Last season Hamrun also won the knock-out competition. He was also a member of the national team who played in the friendly international tournament hosted by the Libyan Federation earlier this year.

Dorianne Galea is a player of Depiro: Once again she had a consistent season where she helped her team Depiro to win four out of five competitions. These included the Peugeot National League for the fourth consecutive time. Dorianne is also the captain of the women’s national team who played in the GSSE in Andorra earlier this year. This team won the bronze medal to add with the previous successes.

Mark Schembri of SN Suns (Men Division I), Steve Sammut of Footwork (Under 20 men), Bever-lee Ann Zammit of Hibernians (Under 20 women), Matthew Shoults of Depiro (Under 17 men) and Sarah Pace of Depiro (Under 17 women) were the other award winners.
