Malta Sports Awards To be broadcast on Education22

It was recently announced that Education22 are joining forces with the Malta Olympic Committee, as Official Broadcast Partner, to bring coverage of the much anticipated event of year on the sporting calendar, the ‘MOC Sports Awards 2005’.

Winners of the various categories will be announced at the official gala awards ceremony at the Dolmen Resort Hotel on Thursday, 8 December.

Education22 Channel will broadcast this event at 10pm. Education22’s coverage will also be extended to include television programme “22pm”, hosted by Lynn Faure, between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.

All nominated athletes will be introduced to the general public and their sporting achievements for the year will be highlighted. These include events which have earned them the respect and acknowledgement of their peers and where due recognition at the MOC Sports Awards will be given.

The line-up of the nominated athletes for the week will include Angela Galea (Swimming), Marcon Bezzina (Judo) and Massimo Cremona (Table Football) today; William Chetcuti (shooting), Emanuel Grima (Shooting), and Frans Pace (Shooting) tomorrow; Alex Borg (Snooker), Joe Grech (Snooker), and Simon Zammit (Snooker) on Thursday; Mario Bonello (Athletics), Rashid Chouhal (Athletics), Darren Gilford (Athletics), and Jeandre Mallia (Athletics) on Friday and Carol Galea (Athletics), Lisa Bezzina (Athletics) and Rebecca Camilleri (Athletics) on Monday. More nominees will be scheduled for the following week.

Charlo Bonnici, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, responsible for Education22, at the announcement of this partnership, stated that this agreement is in line with Education22’s recent agenda, which includes revamping of its image and introducing new programme content including regular sports programmes to educate and entertain viewers about local sport.

The ‘MOC Sports Awards 2005’ will be the highlight event of all sports programmes to be broadcast on Education22. He went on to say that with this partnership he hopes that this will lead to further collaborations and new projects bringing and highlighting the importance of having a strong television for Sport.
