Handball: Aloysians ProMinent Outclassed by La Salle Nexos’s top notch performance

A thrilling clash of the titans ended up in a complete rout for La Salle Nexos who easily disposed of Aloysians ProMinent whose performance on the day left much to be desired. This encounter started off to an infuriated rhythm as goals kept flying in from all over the place. La Salle took the upper hand as they managed to gain a three-goal advantage at the end of the first half.

The second half was predicted to be a close battle between the teams; however La Salle had other plans. After five minutes where Aloysians seemed to keep pace with their opponents, La Salle soared off to an exceptional 10 consecutive goals which left Aloysians in dismay and trailing by 14.

Aloysians could do little to get back in the match as La Salle had an unstoppable Julian Bauer who managed to net the ball eight times and an outstanding performance by national goalkeeper Andrew Mifsud who managed to save all three penalties against him.

La Salle now take the lead in the MHA Cup standings as Aloysians trail by three.

Kavallieri Kia Motors claimed their first three points of the competition as they beat modest D6 Active Bodies. The first half saw both teams struggling to light up the scoreboard as D6 managed to stay in contention with some good attacks and a solid defence.

However in the second half, Kavallieri stepped up their game and took control of the match as they added 20 goals to their tally. D6 kept fighting bravely as this young squad managed to give Kavallieri a hard time. Joseph Tanti had an excellent game for D6 Active Bodies whilst veterans Orlando Bonnici and Chris Galea set the game straight for Kavallieri with high quality goals.

In their first match of the second round, La Salle D-Vision returned to their winning ways as they beat D6 Active Bodies. This match saw Alessandro Zerafa and Chris Magro for La Salle and Jerome Zammit for D6 being the main protagonists as these promising youngsters all had a top notch performance.

An 11-goal lead at the end of the match looks quite harsh on D6 who fought bravely throughout the game. However, experience was on La Salle's squad that has been consistent in the U/16s league for quite some time.

Aloysians obtained their second win over D6 Abakus Solutions in a one-sided match. The first half saw Aloysians taking a six-goal lead however the match lacked momentum and the score line was quite low.

However in the second half, Aloysians turned on the style and inspired by Brenda Camilleri and Mathilde Friggieri they made sure of the three points. D6 scored another four goals in the second half and seem to be improving match after match.

In a match that failed to reach its expectations, D6 Active Bodies and La Salle Piatnik had to be happy to share a point each. The match was evenly balanced however D6 took the upper hand in the first half as they exploited La Salle's defensive mistakes on the left flank.

In the second half, La Salle stirred up a reaction and managed to draw back on level terms after 15 minutes of play. However, we had to wait for another 14 minutes to see another goal which arrived 45 seconds from time by Kevin Casaru. Fifteen seconds later, Alan Caruana scored the final goal that tied the match.

In the season's most controversial match, Aloysians managed to have the better of La Salle AMC. The match was quite a close encounter as they two title contenders gave their utmost to create most damage with Aloysians leading by two at half time.

The second half was very similar to the first half. Unfortunately the game was marred by a series of refereeing mistakes on both sides which jeopardised the match for both teams as lack of concentration was clearly visible. Despite the 15 2-minute suspension and two red cards given by the referees, Aloysians managed to clinch the winner 25 seconds from time.
