Cycling Marathon for ‘Id-Dar tal-Providenza’

The Lyceum Dun Guzepp Zammit (Brighella) of Hamrun is inviting the public to attend a 50hr bicycle marathon which will be held in the school ground between 24 -26 March. Money raised during the Marathon will be in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi and Muscular Dystrophy Group.

The activity will start on Friday 24 March at 12.30pm. from the school’s Annexe in Sliema from where the participants will cycle to the Lyceum Hamrun, where the marathon will continue.

The theme of the marathon will be “From children to children”. The aims are - to foster in the students a sense of solidarity towards youngsters in need, to raise funds for Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi to start a project of refurbishment at Villa Papa Luciani, and to offset the remaining bank loan on the van which was presented today last Thursday to the Muscular Dystrophy Group by the Chairperson of the Malta Community Chest Fund, Mrs Mary Fenech Adami and Mr Tony Caruana Smith, Head of The Lyceum and Chairperson of the Bike Marathon.

Other activities during the three days of the Marathon will include a variety show every evening on stage, featuring leading singers and artists, a static show of the Ferrari Club (Malta), old cars and motorcycles, and American auto club (Malta)on Sunday morning, and various other exhibitions and displays. There will be ample rich food and drinks at all hours.

The first two editions had raised more than Lm8,000 in aid of Caritas. The third and fourth edition more than Lm19,000 in aid of I.B.I.C. (Malta).

In 2004, a cheque of over Lm10,000 was presented to the President of Malta in aid of children suffering from cancer under the patronage of the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Last year, The Lyceum donated another Lm10,000, Muscular Dystrophy Group (Lm7,000), Equal Partners’ Foundation (Lm2,000) and Lm500 each to St. Francis de Paule Institute, B'Kara and St. Theresa Institute of Zurrieq.
