Hockey: Joint Leaders in direct clash

Malta Independent Saturday, 11 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

The Blue Label National League resumes tomorrow with the first two games from the second round. The first game of the second round will see the two joint leaders, Rabat and Sliema, face each other at 9am while in the second game Poiatti Qormi take on Britannia Tours White Hart (11am).

While Rabat’s position at the top of the table comes as little surprise, Sliema’s good first round has raised a few eyebrows. Their disastrous Challenge Cup performance did not auger well but the hard fought 2-2 draw against Champions at the start of the season lifted their moral and they followed that up with three consecutive wins. On their part after their initial ‘mishap’ Rabat have also notched three consecutive victories. As in all the games they play Rabat will start as favourites and the absence of Andrei Imbroll from the Sliema Hs midfield will be sorely felt.

The second game of the day will see the two clubs from the other end of the table facing each other. Both sides have had a disappointing first round. No doubt Poiatti Qormi were expecting something more then the three points they picked up from their first game against the same White Hart. Their approach to the games has always been positive but they have conceded a high number of goals especially from short corner situations.
