Squash Coach Paul Lake selected again as European tutor

Malta Independent Thursday, 2 March 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 10 years ago

Malta Squash national coach Paul Lake has recently been chosen yet again from coaches across Europe to be a European Squash Federation (ESF) coaching tutor.

This position requires Lake to travel around Europe to assist other countries with their squash coaching development work and to hold level 1 coaching courses.

Last year Lake had a successful trip to Poland where he coached numerous candidates attempting to obtain there coaching degree.

Successful candidates were awarded the ESF coaching Diploma that is recognised throughout Europe.

Due to last year’s success, Mr. Lake was yet again been approached this year to hold the same course in Latvia. Malta Squash was delighted to have heard the news as this not only reflects the level of coaching that is available here in Malta but also feels honoured to share Lake’s wealth of experience with all squash enthusiasts.

Malta Squash one day hopes to benefit from this regular appointment and maybe hold a level 1 coaching course giving players in Malta the chance to obtain a European wide recognised diploma. This will also be beneficial towards Lake’s future plans as he will have coaches to assist him with the ever increasing numbers of individuals taking up this sport.

A level 1 coaching course requires more than 32 hours ‘on court’ work over two weekends, with four weeks in between, to give potential coaches the chance to practise their new skills.

Malta Squash secretary Nigel J Dunkerley is hopeful that the Malta Olympic committee and the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport will continue assisting the association with the necessary promotion and funding in order to be able to maintain such a high level of squash.
