New Ship on order for MSC Cruises

Malta Independent Saturday, 25 March 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

MSC Cruises has placed an order for a new ship, the MSC Poesia.

The new vessel will be constructed by Alstom Marine. MSC Poesia will be a Panamax construction and with gross tonnage of 90,000 tonnes, and technically mirror MSC Musica and MSC Orchestra.

This order for MSC Poesia underlines MSC Cruises’ unprecedented growth from three ships in 2002, to the current eight ships with the arrival of MSC Musica at the end of June this year. The fleet will total 12 ships by 2009. In addition an option has been also taken to build a fourth vessel as a sister ship for MSC Poesia, MSC Orchestra and MSC Musica.

Just like her siblings, MSC Poesia will be 294 metres long and 32 metres wide, with a total passenger capacity of 2,500. There will be an excellent ratio of on board space to passenger capacity, in line with MSC Cruises philosophy that dictates that both traveller and design are at the centre of the company’s ethos ensuring comfort and the best service.

MSC Cruises are exclusively represented in Malta by Hamilton Travel Co. Ltd of 4, St. Publius Street, Floriana.
