Malta Independent Thursday, 27 April 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Vodafone Malta Foundation is supporting the publication of “Naqraw, Niddiskutu u Niktbu”, the new book in Maltese issued by the Paulo Freire Institute in Zejtun and written by Carmen Mamo. This book launch forms part of the Institute’s ongoing commitment to promote reading and writing among youths and adults.

“Education has been a central theme of the Vodafone Foundation’s commitment to the Maltese community. Such programmes offered by the Paulo Freire Institute entail the provision of literacy experts, the purchasing of adequate educational resources and the training of volunteers and we encourage other leading companies to follow our gesture,” said Mr Martin Gregory, Head of Human Resources at Vodafone Malta and a member of the foundation’s committee.

“Books like Naqraw, Niddiskutu u Niktbu offer a useful resource targeted at youths and adults to learn the basics of reading and writing. Ms Carmen Mamo has been teaching adults at our institute for several years and has drawn on her experience in this field. Our gratitude goes towards her dedication in writing this book and to Vodafone Malta Foundation for sponsoring the publication,” said Fr Edgar Busuttil SJ, the Paulo Freire Institute Executive Director.

The Paulo Freire Institute was set up by the Maltese Jesuits to promote reading and writing in the Maltese language. The Institute also provides empowerment courses to women and other facilities to unemployed individuals.
