Parliament: 254 MRSA Cases in six months

A total of 254 cases have resulted positive for MRSA in the first half of this year, the health minister confirmed yesterday.

Replying to Michael Farrugia, Louis Deguara gave figures which show that May was the month with the most cases – 71, 48 at St Luke’s and 23 elsewhere. The month with the lowest amount of cases was January with 33, 25 at St Luke’s and eight elsewhere.

Arson attacks on the increase

Justice Minister Tonio Borg confirmed that arson attacks are on the increase, from 58 cases reported in the first half of last year to 66 cases this year. The minister was replying to Adrian Vassallo.

36 reports of sexual crimes

Over the first half of this year the police received 36 reports of sexual crimes – 15 regarding corruption of minors, six regarding rape, and 15 regarding attempts on public morals. Justice Minister Tonio Borg was replying to Adrian Vassallo.
