Last week, the American poet Moira Egan read pieces of her work at the Café Deux Baronnes in Valletta. The public reading, organised by Inizjamed, in collaboration with St James Cavalier, was attended by 20 people, who enjoyed an evening of poetry. Besides Moira Egan, Maltese poets, including among others Clare Azzopardi, Antoine Cassar, Maria Grech Ganado and Adrian Grima, also read some of their works.

Moira’s poems were published in several American magazines – Poetry, American Letters & Commentary, Boulevard and The Laurel Review, and in the anthologies Kindled Terraces, American Poets in Greece and Lofty Dogmas, Poets on Poetics. She has an MFA from Columbia University. Twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize, her work has won many awards. She was a 2004 Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Fellow at the Virginia Centre for the Creative Arts.

Moira Egan is currently enjoying a six-week sabbatical in Malta as an exchange visiting artist from the Virginia Centre for Creative Arts. She is now working on her first novel.

Moira directs the Creative Writing Programme in a Baltimore public high school, teaches workshops at The Writer’s Centre in Bethesda, and has lectured on poetry at The Smithsonian.
