Like a latter day Crusader, Notary Saydon picks up pen and wields it against your irreverent female journalists, Daphne and Marie, who would dare write stuff our Catholic bigots consider to be displeasing and offensive (TMIS, 8 October).

In doing so, Not. Saydon reveals very clearly what the last resort of any religion is – trying to instil fear and the threat of violence. He quotes from no less than our saintly Pope John Paul II to remind us that the final judgment will come and Not. Saydon makes it quite clear that he expects our two female correspondents to burn in hell’s everlasting fire. So much for Christian love!

Luckily for us in the Western world, the winds of reason have blown away the densest cobwebs of irrational, religious superstition and the likes of Not. Saydon cannot condemn anyone to the stake any more.

The only violence they can threaten with is in the afterlife and inevitably and inexorably their doctrines of fear, be they Islam or be they Christian, will wither and die under the bright light of Science and Reason.
