From Ms C. Galea

The fever, which was Voices, has now gone down, but I feel there are a few thank-yous that have, so far, remained unexpressed.

As one of the married members of the choir, I have no doubt that the other wives and mothers will join me in sincerely thanking our husbands and children for wholly supporting us throughout this venture. Most of our families have uncomplainingly tolerated un-made beds, piles of un-ironed clothes and quick-fix meals in the 15 days we spent at MCC. Not to mention our prolonged absences from home and the late hours we kept. They have cheered us on and altogether made us feel like stars.

However, Voices is not simply about being on stage and singing to packed houses night after night. Nor is it just a great fund raiser for deserving causes. It is about friendship and caring for one another as ‘One Family’. And here it would be remiss of me if I did not thank the younger members of the choir.

As one of the older (slightly?!) generation, I smiled every time Josef Bonello referred to Voices choir as a “kor zaghzugh”. Quite a large number of us are, in fact, over 40! However, these young people, most of them young enough to be our children, never batted an eyelid. Not only did we sing, we also spoke, laughed, ate, and yes, even danced together for a whole 10 nights and for three months of rehearsals before that. All this was done in an atmosphere where the age-barrier was non-existent.

Thank you to this group of wonderful young people who have so much to offer to society. They have set an example for their peers by their commitment and unselfish efforts to raise money for those less fortunate than some – and by having good clean fun in the process.

Such a pity that we have to wait for another two years to pass before the next Voices concert!
