Bank of Valletta has donated computers to the Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility (FITA) Malta. FITA is the principal advocate and coordinator for making information communications technology (ICT) accessible for disabled people in the Maltese islands.

The foundation’s principle function is to provide support to disabled people in overcoming or removing barriers to education and employment through ICT and to improve the individual’s quality of life by minimising the digital divide.

Bank of Valletta Hamrun branch manager Rosanne Petrocochino presented the computers to Michael Micallef, officer in charge of ICT Accessibility Audits of FITA (Malta) during a visit to the FITA premises at Gattard House, National Road, Blata l-Bajda.

“We are delighted to be able to support FITA in making ICT more accessible for people who have a disability,” said Ms. Petrocochino. “Bank of Valletta, in its day to day operations, makes use of technology in order to deliver a straightforward and efficient service to its clients. To mention a few examples, by leveraging ICT, we are able to offer extensive internet and phone banking services and operate our ATM and EPOS networks. Indeed, Bank of Valletta, as a leading financial services organisation in Malta, is well aware of its social obligations, and this donation of technology equipment to FITA underlines our commitment in this regard,” she said.

Thanking Bank of Valletta for its donation, Mr Micallef emphasised the importance of promoting equal opportunities for all, in particular in relation to information technology matters. “We are committed to provide training services in information technology for disabled people and to increase awareness on IT issues. Through our educational initiatives, we aim to enable individuals to contribute productively to society and the economy,” Mr Micallef concluded.
