The play by Tennessee Williams. Directed by Frank Hoerner, with Mikhail Basmadjian, Irene Christ, Faye Paris, Alan Paris, Stefan Cachia Zammit and Rachel Darmanin Demajo. The production is dedicated to Julian Manduca.

Lacuna

8-10 December at the MITP, St Christopher Street, Valletta

Produced by Du’ Theatre Group. The piece, in Maltese and written by Simone Spiteri, is inspired and takes as a springboard Sepja: a series of (still unpublished) novels written by Trevor Zahra who, although synonymous with Maltese children’s literature, has written these pieces for an adult reader, with a strong, observant and witty pen.

Disney ReTuned

30 December – 7 January 2007 at St James Cavalier, Valletta

With a colourful set design, Disney-licensed costumes, singalong tunes, baddies, goodies and prizes to be won, Disney ReTuned will take you through a journey of wonderland. Presented by the Curtain Raiser Theatre Troupe and directed by Patrick Vella.

St Catherine of Italy lunchtime concerts

Thursdays and Sundays in St Catherine of Italy church, Valletta

These concerts are organised by St James Cavalier in collaboration with the Valletta Rehabilitation Project and the Manoel Theatre in order to raise funds for the restoration of this church. The collaboration with the Manoel Theatre, through the temporary loan of the harpsichord, has made possible a wider repertoire, specifically from the baroque and early classical period. All the proceeds from these concerts will go towards the church’s restoration fund.

Central Academy’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame

2-3 December at the Republic Hall, Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta

The classic tale of The Hunchback of Notre Dame is the basis of the Central Academy’s sixth production. The projection technique used for this full-length ballet (employed by award-winning set designer Peter Howitt) is a breakthrough and has never before been used for a full production in Malta. As is the tradition for the Central Academy, all students, senior students and teachers, as well as several guest artists (Justin Roy Barker, Daron Galea, Alexander Spiteri, Stuart Ferris, Sarah Mercieca and Joseph Schembri) will take part in this production. The direction and choreography are in the hands of directors Monique Pellegrini Petit and Mireille Coleiro, together with Svetlana Silina and Marisha Bonnici.

Performance by the Corps de Ballet of the Prague National Theatre

191 Children’s Views of the World exhibition

2 November – 17 December at Caraffa Stories, Cottonera Waterfront

An initiative of the Geneva-World Association. The original drawings by children from 191 member states of the United Nations, including Malta, express a thirst for peace, security and recognition. Organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

Borges & Peccata Mundi – An exhibition by Michael Anderson

1 December – 7 January at St James Cavalier, Valletta

The eight parables from Labyrinths by Jorge Luis Borges, are the inspiration for Borges which comprises narratives combining allegory and speculation with proposed and historic truths from a selected repository of ideas. Peccata Mundi, on the other hand, digitally enlarged panel paintings combining paint with permanent pigmented colour giclée printing.

Poetry in Motion: Photographic Exhibition of the Beijing Opera

As a keen lover of photography and Chinese culture, Charles Mifsud captures through his lens the “moving poetry” of Beijing Opera performances staged at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in April this year.

Bla Kondixin

What do Fakawi, Ray Calleja, Snits and Zoo have in common? The upcoming edition of Bla Kondixin, a guaranteed evening of non-stop hilarity and laughter. Following the great success of previous Festivals of Satire, this year the return of Bla Kommixin as Bla Kondixin. Michael Fenech, who created the concept, co-wrote, produced and directed all editions of Bla Kommixin, will be producing the new improved version under his own steam. With Josef Bonello, Hector Bruno and Malcolm Galea, who also perform their own material.

Professional Storytellers in Malta

11-13 December at the Robert Samut Hall, Floriana, St James Cavalier, Valletta, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura and Casa Rocca Piccola, Valletta

Eight international storytellers from Austria, France, Greece, Israel and Italy, plus a number of Maltese storytellers, will participate in the first International Storytelling Festival organised by the Department of Maltese at the University of Malta G.F. Abela Junior College, to be held for students and the general public. The festival is being organised in collaboration with the Enzyklopadie des Marchens at the Academy of Sciences, Gottingen, Germany, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Malta, the Austrian Embassy in Malta, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Malta and the European Commission Representation in Malta. Hercules – The Panto
