In his letter Water and electricity bills (TMID, 25 November), Laurence Schembri from Gudja made a number of completely unfounded claims.

Your correspondent claimed that the WSC has failed to keep a promise made four years ago, to issue bills every two months and take meter readings twice a year. This is absolutely incorrect as water and electricity bills are being issued, on average, every two months. I say “on average”, because as with every system there are sometimes minor delays. The corporation also sometimes holds back a billing cycle in particular areas so as to avoid sending, say, two bills in quick succession. Meter readings too, are being taken twice yearly virtually without exception.

Mr Schembri also said that he had discussions with “a lot of people”, who agreed with him that taking out a standing order with the banks would be a good idea. So what’s stopping him? The corporation has been accepting standing orders for ages and these are automatically taken into account in the bills. All Mr Schembri has to do is visit his bank.

Mr Schembri’s claim that heads of corporations treat people as if they had no brain is preposterous if it was intended as a snide remark about the Water Services Corporation.
