Atlas Insurance recently hosted a seminar titled Malta: An Emerging Protected Cell Domicile (PCC), following the company’s recent conversion to a protected cell company last November.

Deputy managing director of Atlas Insurance PCC Matthew von Brockdorff and Dr Matthew Bianchi from the Ganado and Associates gave an overview of Malta’s PCC regulations.

Managing director of Alternative Risk Management Limited in Guernsey Charles Scott outlined the experiences of PCC Operations in Guernsey and Cayman, demonstrating typical applications and underwriting using examples from his 12-year experience in the field.

Steve Butterworth, first insurance regulator in Guernsey and consultant to the Malta Financial Services Authority, spoke about the Guernsey success story from the regulator’s point of view.

“Atlas is now able to expand its operations by extending its existing capacity to the overseas markets. We have adequate capital, human and administrative resources to achieve this aim, and will use our existing infrastructure and the insurance expertise we have gained over the years towards this venture,” said Mr von Brockdorff.
