First PCC Seminar

Malta Independent Sunday, 28 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Following its conversion to a Protected Cell Company in November 2006, Atlas Insurance organised a seminar on the subject earlier this month at the Hilton with the title “Malta: An Emerging Protected Cell Domicile”. The seminar presented a highly interesting line-up of speakers and was very well attended by local lawyers and audit firms with an interest in this fledgling sector.

Following an introduction by Matthew von Brockdorff, deputy managing director of Atlas Insurance PCC, Dr Matthew Bianchi from the law firm Ganado & Associates gave an overview of Malta’s PCC regulations to a 70-strong audience.

Charles Scott, managing director of Alternative Risk Management Limited in Guernsey, outlined the experiences of PCC Operations in Guernsey and Cayman, demonstrating typical applications and underwriting using examples from his 12 year experience in this highly specialised field.

Steve Butterworth, first insurance regulator in Guernsey and at present consultant to the Malta Financial Services Authority, gave an insight of the Guernsey success story from the regulator’s point of view.

Mr von Brockdorff wrapped up the session by highlighting the PCC facilities offered by Atlas as well as the rationale behind the company’s conversion to a PCC.
