Locally Produced TV commercial unveiled

Malta Independent Tuesday, 6 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Nestlé Malta unveiled a new locally developed television commercial for its chocolate brand Milkybar. The 30 second commercial is totally computer animated and was produced by local post-production company Blaze Productions together with JP Advertising. The concept centers round the Milkybar Kid character who saves the Milkybar treasure from the nasty villains and gives the chocolate back to the children.

The commercial had its first public screening on local television last week and will run up until the second week of February.

A spokesperson for Nestlé Malta said, “Milkybar is a great source of milk goodness and this new Milkybar Kid advert is central to our current campaign, which kicked off last week, promoting Milkybar chocolate and its health attributes amongst children. The advert itself is a very professional production of international standard and captures the essence of Milkybar’s worldwide appeal”. He said that the starting point of the Milkybar television commercial was inspired by the heroic character present on the packaging of the Milkybar. Ironically, he said, Milkybar boy is small in stature, wears glasses and has a petite build and his source of power is coming from the goodness of milk.

Commenting about the production of the advert, Chris Pace, Managing Director, Blaze Productions, said that from the very early stages of conceptualization, it was agreed that the production team was going to execute the project using 3D animation throughout. The chocolate challenge (Ordinary chocolate vs. Nestlé Milkybar Chocolate) met the brief instantly. The main message being that, ‘A SOURCE OF MILK GOODNESS’ was clear and reached both the adult target consumers as well as the children.

Chris Pace said that, “Technically, the Milkybar commercial was very challenging. Each item had to be modeled with extreme precision to remain faithful with the original character on the packaging. The environment, the props and all other characters in the commercial however were a creation of the production team. Like in every adventure, there are heroes and there are villains and in the case of the Milkybar commercial, the villain was a similar styled character with a more grown-up look and feel. The idea of a typical gun fight was inspired by the clothing of the Milkybar boy whose dress code is that of a sheriff”.

He said that the Milkybar commercial is a successful project that combines technical capacity together with creativity in a virtual world that has no boundaries.

Milkybar was launched by Nestlé in Switzerland in 1936 and appeared on the UK market that same year. The milk goodness of the bar has always been a strong facet of the brand which appeals to small children and parents alike. Milkybar is present in over 27 markets and the Milkybar Kid is now acknowledged as an international icon.
