New Release by Beangrowers

Malta Independent Saturday, 10 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Indie band Beangrowers have just released their second UK single I Like You.

Their first UK single was out in April 2006 with the release of a vinyl of You Are You Are, which was followed by a six-date tour. The band launched I Like You on 30 January in London, at Oxford Street’s Metro Club.

The previous week, Beangrowers were on a mini-tour of Ireland where they also released their album. They played gigs in Dublin, Cork and Galway as well as playing at an in-store show at Tower Records.

Dance, Dance Baby will be released in the UK in March.

First reactions from the UK press are positive, with Glasswerk describing them as “cool, quirky and European”. Zeitgeist magazine boldly stated: “the songs stand up to repeat plays as the Maltese trio set about their alt-pop songs with aplomb. Keep an eye out, folks”. New Noise: “Dance, Dance Baby has all the ingredients to be a successful album: poppy, incisive but with an attractively moody side,” while Musical Discoveries gave them a five-star review and when referring to The Priest insisted that “Wim Wenders knew exactly what he was doing when he used the song in his recent film Land Of Plenty.”

This year might yet prove to be the band’s most hectic to date, with further releases and tours lined up in the USA, France, The Netherlands, Belgium and Italy.

Meanwhile, the band have started work on their fourth album.
