First Phase of development completed

Malta Independent Sunday, 11 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The first phase of the Townsquare Sliema Project, Townsquare Seafront, has been completed. All the apartments have been handed over to clients and residents are now moving in.

Townsquare Seafront is a prestigious residential development, located on the Sliema seafront, yet only a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle Sliema’s shops and cafes.

The magnificent façade of Townsquare Seafront has truly embellished Qui-si-Sana, especially when viewed from Ghar id-Dud. The development consists of luxury apartments and penthouses, and four unique townhouses. Each townhouse is located directly on the seafront, with private ground-floor seafront entrances, spread over 550 square metres on two floors, with attractive back gardens and terraces and open sea views on the first floor – a contemporary recreation of the Sliema seafront residential townhouse.

The second phase of the Townsquare Sliema Project will incorporate the land that was previously occupied by the Union Club and Villa Drago (the former Libyan Cultural Institute). The site has access from Tower Road, Tigné Street and Hughes Hallet Street and has an outline development permit for mixed-use development that has been resubmitted to bring it in line with the recently approved North Harbour local plan.

Townsquare is a large, open-air urban project set in the existing heart of Sliema, with distinctive functions designed to work in harmony with each other: retail, leisure, office and residential. The whole area will be 100 per cent traffic-free but with the convenience of underground parking and large open spaces equivalent to over 50 per cent of the site.

The size and central location of this site placed a considerable responsibility on the developers. However, this responsibility was the main force behind the overall design concept and approach – to give Sliema what it really lacks: a central open and green space for the public to enjoy and experience, a series of pedestrian tree-lined avenues and lanes with shops, beautiful public squares with open-air cafes and restaurants and sunken gardens around a restored Villa Drago, creating Sliema’s “heart”, Sliema’s Townsquare.
